The Fraternity & Sorority Community at TCNJ uses a deferred recruitment system for ALL first semester freshmen. This means that no first semester freshmen are allowed to join any recognized TCNJ Greek letter organization until the Spring of their freshmen year. As becoming a member of a Greek organization is a lifetime commitment, choosing to join one should not be taken lightly. After acclimating to TCNJ and college life, students that meet the following requirements and criteria are eligible to join a sorority at TCNJ:
1. Must be a fully matriculated TCNJ student.
2. A minimum of a 2.5 GPA and 12 TCNJ credits (for all NPC sororities)
3. If you area a transfer student, you must have a minimum of 12 TCNJ accepted transfer credits.
EXAMPLE: If you went to ABC University for a year and a half and accumulated
22 credits. You decided to transfer to TCNJ for the Spring semester of your
sophomore year.TCNJ only accepted 10 of your credits. You could not join
a Greek chapter at TCNJ until the Fall because you only had 10 TCNJ accepted
4. You must attend Round Robin for ALL NPC sororities.
Recruitment is commonly referred to as "rush." The Panhellenic Association follows the Recruitment guidelines set forth by the NPC. Formal Recruitment at The College of New Jersey is set up as a mutual selection process and takes place during two weekends at the beginning of the spring semester. Women who are seeking to become members of a sorority, and therefore are participating in the recruitment activities, are known as Potential New Members (PNM). Recruitment is designed so that each PNM and the sorority sisters interact with each other which helps both groups make educated decisions about which chapters match best with which PNM.
Helping with this process are the Rho Gammas (Rush Guides). Rho Gammas are sisters who guide PNMs through the period of Recruitment. They attend Recruitment activities, explain the processes involved, and offer advice about how to find the organization which best suits the PNM. During Recruitment, Rho Gammas are disaffiliated. They are not allowed to associate with their sisters during this time period, and the organizations that they are members of must remain anonymous. This is because Rho Gammas guide PNMs through the entire Recruitment process, and the affiliation of a Rho Gamma may influence the PNM's decision about which sorority best suits her.
Recruitment culminates with Bid Day Party. On Bid Day, successfully matched PNMs receive their bids (an invitation to join a sorority) and the chapters discover which women will soon be joining their organization. Also on this day, the affiliations of the Rho Gammas are revealed. After Bid Day, PNMs are known as "New Members" of their specified organization. Bid Day is always exciting because the addition of New Members always changes the sorority--for the better!
